Mackmyra created Mackmyra Stjärnrök for this year's autumn release. Large quantities of Mackmyra's own smoked malt recipe were used for this bottling, which was then matured in unsaturated, ex-Bourbon casks and new American oak casks of varying sizes.
To complement the smoke and rounded notes of the oloroso, a number of older ex-bourbon casks and Swedish oak casks saturated with Swedish cloudberry wine were added.
The idea to distil a Swedish whisky came about during a ski trip of eight friends in 1998. Everyone brought a bottle of whisky and so the conversations were all about whisky. This gave rise to the Mackmyra Bruk distillery, which produces its whisky using only local ingredients and no colouring. The founders have also immortalised themselves in the bottle design: For each of the eight friends, there is a dent - 'a fingerprint, so to speak' - in the lower part of the bottle.
