Mackmyra Limousin matured partly (43%) in former cognac barrels made of French Limousin oak from the well-known producer Ferrand. The remaining half of the malt comes from Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks as well as fresh American oak casks and casks previously saturated with berry wine.
The idea to distil a Swedish whisky was born during a ski trip of eight friends in 1998. Each brought a bottle of whisky and so the conversations revolved around whisky. This gave rise to the Mackmyra Bruk distillery, which produces its whisky using only local ingredients and no colouring. The founders have also immortalised themselves in the bottle design: For each of the eight friends, there is a dent - 'a fingerprint, so to speak' - in the lower part of the bottle.
